Fashionista / Society Fashion Week
By: Dira Ve of Peekapose Productions
The Roosevelt Hotel, a magnificent historical Iconic landmark transported this fashionista back to the roaring 20’s with its grand architecture and décor. The Roosevelt hosted Society Fashion Week a “must attend “event during NYFW. Entering Roosevelt’s grand ballroom with Tiffany chandeliers, magnificently arched windows, and iron-laced balconies’ added such a dramatic presence to this event! The majority of their models were children, but these kids brought a professional high-end attitude on that runway. “The Society Child Fashion Show has a goal to spread the love of fashion for children and teens while creating endless opportunities and experiences”. This fashionista witness that love in every moment of this show. I was privileged to attend a few shows in this three-day event. The roster of phenomenal talents included, Jean T. T., Pin2Gether, The Red Umbrella, De Lauraine, D’Lora, Disla Couture, Krissy King and Alora Safari.
Jean T.T / Shelsy Tity
Red, blues, and yellows hit that runway when Shelsy Tity presented her line. Casual wear that flowed when the models walked was inspired by performing arts. When I asked Shelsy how did she feel presenting her line at Society Fashion Week she said: “super bless and happy.”
Pin2gether / Ashlyn So
Ashlyn So, a 9-year-old Designer, presented her line Pin2gether spoke so passionately about her white theme concept inspired by her love of winter. She adorned her models with white elf reindeer head accessories that added to her winter theme. When asked why winter inspired her, her adorable face lit up and said: “I think winter is a really nice inspiration”. This fashionista enjoyed her line and see a great future in this young designer.
The Red Umbrella / Lisa Brown
I would love to get some zzz’s wearing one of kind Lisa Brown’s loungewear! Her overall collection had neutral and earth tones hues. There were hints of blues with some floral motifs in several garments. It was such a lovely touch when she added ruffles to the bottom of some of her pieces.
De Lauraine / Toni Lau
When I viewed Toni Lau’s collection, I felt she was telling a story. Victorian dresses, full of drama and boldness of saturated colors grace that runway. I was captivated by this story and impressed with her attention to details and her presentation that she has won my “Fashionista Fav” award. Toni Lau a writer and designer were inspired by a book she is currently writing on the undead! Her clothing line “Elegant Vampires” tells a story of Vampires in the 1800’s in Victorian Fashion living among humans hiding their true identities. In her book, she references that each vampire has different powers, amazing lives, and love stories. I was surprised to see how this story unfolded when the models bared their long fangs on the runway. I was thrilled and deliciously frighten at the same time. When I asked her what makes her different from other designers, Toni Lau stated: “I don’t use any patterns ever. It comes right out of my head in every way. I’ll get the idea then go straight for the scissors without a plan, and it just comes out”. Toni Lau’s serendipity process and her narrative concept were absolutely astounding.
D’Lora Moda
D’Lora Moda collection was the opener and the closer of this show. She started her line with chic black swimwear, off the shoulder ruffles with sharp white lines emphasizing the direction of the ruffles. D’Lora closed the show with majestic elegant gowns inspired by flower gardens, and well-known fashion labels such as Dior and Channel. This fashionista felt she was in front of royalty when D’Lora collection hit the runway. Her majestic ball gowns with lace overlays and appliqués flowers added to that feel of grandeur. “My dream is to make this Couture group bigger so that every girl can look beautiful in our dresses”, she said. If I had to describe D’Lora Moda collection in one word I would say “timeless”.
Disla Couture / Cristina Rodriguez
All little girls or anyone that has children would know Disney’s version The Little Mermaid song “Under the Sea”, I bet you just started singing it right now…right? Disla Couture presented her line with this famous song, full of flowy blues and coral reef pink couture dresses that were inspired by the beauty of the beaches. One of Disla Couture designs that I enjoyed was a beautiful long blouse with shades of blues almost simulating the movement of ocean waves. Another garment that stood out was a ruffled ball gown with a delicate train. The bodice of the dress was a warm cream color with detailed embroidery blue coral reefs with hints of vibrant greens. “Delicate and charming”, I thought. ” Her head pieces designed by Rosmalinda Beato added beautifully to the overall concept. The intricate seashell headpieces were handmade and worn like crowns in some of Disla designs. This fashionista like many other girls at any age would dream of becoming the Little Mermaid with Disla Couture designs we might have that chance.
Krissy King
Krissy King collection was a roller coaster of fashion style with twists and splendid turns. “I love anything fun and out of the box”, she exclaimed. She describes her design as everyday wear that is super-cute and fashionable. I totally agree! She first showed her flamingo motif casual wear, then solid color jackets accompany with bubble shorts with elaborated bows. Fun playful floral print dresses arrived afterward. She ended her clothing line with swimwear. Krissy King presentation of her eclectic clothing line revealed an exciting transition of styles in coordination with her music selections. This fashionista gleefully enjoyed this roller coaster ride of fashion, the only problem I had was…I never wanted it to stop!
Alora Safari
Glamour infused gowns with embellishments and embroidery Alora Safari designs arrived on the runway. I really enjoyed the textural elements whether it was appliqués flowers or sequins. My “fav” dress was this gorgeous blue iridescent piece that illumined the runway. This fashionista felt the overall collection had an emphasis on the use of three-dimensional fabrics that help add a visual sophistication to her designs.
XOXO 🙂
